Every kids’ birthday party has a second dessert shift — after the cake, after the games, when the adults start quietly auditing the table. That is where I found this cheesecake, holding court next to a deflating balloon.

It is $5.98 with the cake-style upcharge and served chilled, which at a party means it survives the table better than anything warm. At 800 calories it is a full dessert, not a nibble — the adults splitting it four ways had the right idea.

The first bite is birthday cake wearing a cheesecake’s texture — creamy, dense, unmistakably cake-batter flavored — on a golden crust that actually crunches. The confetti sprinkles are in the cheesecake, not just on it, so every bite has the little sugar pops, and the whipped cream on top keeps it light at the edges.
